It was a tale of two penalties at the Beveree, with Slavi Spasov making no mistake from the spot to earn Slough a point after Charlie Horlock had saved Mauro Vilhete’s effort for Hampton & Richmond.

Dan Bayliss returned from suspension to strengthen the heart of the Rebels’ defence alongside Scott Davies, with Lexus Beeden and Jeanmal Prosper operating as fullbacks. Slough made three changes to their starting lineup from the draw with Salisbury, with Sam Evans, Johnny Goddard, and Bayliss stepping in. New signing Odysseus Alfa, joining from Rochdale, started on the bench but would later make his debut.

Slough couldn’t have asked for a better start. Within two minutes, Johnny Goddard’s quick corner to John Gilbert saw the midfielder curl a stunning strike into the bottom corner, giving the visitors a dream opening and a 1-0 lead.

The Rebels continued to pile on the pressure. Moments later, a sharp interplay between Evans, Goddard, and Slavi Spasov culminated in a chance for Spasov, whose shot went narrowly wide. Hampton & Richmond’s first response came in the ninth minute, with Kristian Campbell testing Horlock at the near post, but the keeper stood firm.

Despite Slough’s early dominance, Hampton & Richmond grew into the game. An Alfie Williams set piece nearly bore fruit as Jack Taylor’s header found the side netting. Minutes later, the hosts’ persistence paid off. Kristian Campbell’s deft flick from a corner floated past Horlock into the net to restore parity at 1-1.

The equalizer invigorated the Beavers. James Roberts and Campbell continuously probed Slough’s defensive line, and Roberts almost capitalized on a through ball before Jeanmal Prosper intervened brilliantly. Slough, too, had their moments. A defensive error from Hampton’s keeper, Ted Curd, presented a chance, but Spasov and Evans failed to convert.

Just before half time, Hampton struck again. James Roberts broke free, smashing the ball past Horlock. Although the Slough keeper got a hand to it, the power of the shot ensured Hampton went into the break with a 2-1 lead.

Slough began the second half on the front foot, pressing high and looking for an equalizer. However, their efforts were dealt an early blow when Sam Evans had to leave the field due to injury. David Ogbonna came on in his place, adding pace and creativity.

Hampton & Richmond’s Mauro Vilhete had the first notable chance of the half, but his shot sailed over the bar. Meanwhile, Slough began to dominate possession. Substitute Ogbonna was lively, delivering crosses into the box, though Hampton’s defence remained resolute.

The game’s turning point came in the 74th minute when Prosper’s misstep allowed Vilhete to burst into the box, drawing a foul from Davies and earning Hampton a penalty. However, Vilhete’s attempt from the spot was tame, and Horlock guessed correctly, staying in the centre of his goal to make a simple save.

Moments later, Slough were awarded a penalty of their own when Ogbonna was tripped in the box. Up stepped Slavi Spasov, who made no mistake, calmly slotting the ball into the bottom corner to level the score at 2-2.

With momentum on their side, Slough pushed for a winner. Gilbert’s cross found Spasov, whose header went agonizingly wide. Another chance saw Gilbert and Alfa combine, with Gilbert’s low cross deflected towards goal but cleared off the line by Hampton’s desperate defence.

Hampton, too, had late opportunities, including a headed effort from a corner that drifted wide. Despite frantic efforts from both teams, neither could find a decisive goal, and the match ended 2-2.
