Leon Chambers-Parillon delivered a dramatic equaliser deep into added time, rescuing a point for the ten-man Rebels against Salisbury at Arbour Park in a match marked by defensive lapses and moments of controversy.
The Rebels entered the match with hopes of climbing the league table, but they struggled to find rhythm early on. Missing key players like Dan Bayliss and Josh Jackman, Slough fielded a slightly altered lineup, with Henry Ochieng captaining the side and Kwadwo Bugyei-Kyei making his second league start.
Salisbury began on the front foot, pressing high and nearly forcing Slough into an early mistake. Within the opening five minutes, Craig Fasanmade tested Slough goalkeeper Charlie Horlock at the near post, forcing a sharp save. Moments later, Horlock almost gifted the visitors a chance after being hurried by Salisbury’s pressing.
Slough’s response was sluggish. Though they worked into promising crossing positions, their delivery lacked precision, allowing Salisbury’s defence to clear comfortably. The Rebels’ passing accuracy was below par, with unforced errors repeatedly breaking up their momentum.
The best chance for Slough came in the 22nd minute. Slavi Spasov threaded a precise through ball to David Ogbonna, whose deflected effort was denied by former Rebels keeper Dan Lincoln. However, just three minutes later, Salisbury took the lead in fortuitous circumstances. Jordan Ragguette’s cross from the left took a wicked deflection, looping over Horlock and into the net.
Salisbury’s dominance almost saw them double their lead shortly after when Jaden Perez’s dangerous cross narrowly evaded Fasanmade at the far post.
Despite their struggles, Slough had a few glimpses of goal. John Gilbert burst forward from midfield in the 29th minute, but his tame shot was easily gathered by Lincoln. Soon after, Callum Watts’ foul on Spasov gave the Rebels a promising free-kick opportunity, but Scott Davies’ effort struck the wall.
Salisbury remained the more threatening side. Fasanmade wasted a golden opportunity in the 40th minute, lifting his shot over the bar in a one-on-one with Horlock. The half ended with Bugyei-Kyei being dispossessed on the edge of his own box, allowing Perez to fire an effort over. Slough were fortunate to be trailing by just one goal at half time.
Slough made a triple substitution at the break, introducing Gary Abisogun, Johnny Goddard, and Dan Roth for Bugyei-Kyei, Francis Amartey, and Ogbonna. The changes injected energy, but the Rebels remained vulnerable at the back.
Within minutes of the restart, Salisbury nearly doubled their lead. A mix-up in the Slough defence left Horlock exposed, but Ochieng’s timely intervention denied the visitors an easy tap-in. Slough appealed for a penalty shortly after when Spasov appeared to be pulled back in the box, but play continued.
Chambers-Parillon provided a spark in the 54th minute, driving a low cross across the six-yard box, but no Slough player was positioned to convert.
There was a change in referee on the hour mark, when Jack Willmore was forced off with an injury, replaced by fourth official Harry Wood.
The momentum seemed to shift slightly in Slough’s favour as they pushed for an equaliser. However, tempers boiled over in the 79th minute after Noah Coppin’s poor challenge on Ochieng led to a heated scuffle. In the aftermath, Kweku Lucan, who had come on just minutes earlier, was shown a straight red card for his reaction, while Coppin escaped with only a yellow. The decision left Slough’s players and fans incensed.
As the clock ticked into the eight minutes of added time signalled by the officials, Slough threw everything forward. The Rebels had a late corner in the 88th minute, with Sam Evans’ header deflecting dangerously close to goal but ultimately being cleared. Salisbury’s defence appeared to be holding firm, with Lincoln making a crucial save at his near post to deny Roth in stoppage time.
Just when it seemed Slough’s efforts would be in vain, Chambers-Parillon produced a moment of magic. Receiving the ball from Ochieng, he unleashed a thunderous strike that flew past Lincoln into the bottom corner in the ninth minute of added time. Arbour Park erupted as the Rebels salvaged a point from the jaws of defeat.
