Slough Town concluded their pre-season preparations in impressive fashion with a commanding 4-1 victory over Luton Town Under 21s.
This match marked the Rebels' final friendly before they embark on their National League South campaign at home against Chelmsford City on Saturday. Manager Scott Davies can be pleased with his side’s performance, showcasing both attacking flair and defensive solidity.
The first half started energetically but saw few clear-cut chances in the opening ten minutes. Charlie Horlock made a crucial save to keep the score level early on, demonstrating his readiness for the upcoming season. The breakthrough came in the 18th minute, courtesy of a spectacular solo run by Leon Chambers-Parillon. Picking up the ball near the centre circle, he weaved past several Luton defenders before setting up Slavi Spasov, who confidently slotted the ball into the net, giving Slough a 1-0 lead.
However, the first half’s rhythm was disrupted when Sam Evans sustained an injury, forcing an early substitution. Kweku Lucan replaced Evans in the 25th minute, but the injury seemed to affect the Rebels' momentum. Despite this setback, Horlock remained vigilant, making another vital save from a long-range effort just before the break. The first half ended with Slough maintaining their narrow lead, thanks to Spasov’s strike.
In the second half, Davies made several changes, including introducing EDS products Ryan North and Josh Stranks, as well as senior players Dan Roth and Josh Jackman. The fresh legs paid immediate dividends. In the 49th minute, Gary Abisogun’s clever chipped pass found Lucan, whose initial effort hit the post, but a trialist forward was on hand to convert the rebound, doubling the Rebels' advantage.
Luton responded almost instantly, pulling a goal back through Jayden Luker in the 51st minute, briefly making it 2-1. However, Slough restored their two-goal cushion just four minutes later. John Ufuah delivered a precise low cross into the six-yard box, and Lucan was there to tap it home, making it 3-1.
The Rebels continued to dominate and further extended their lead in the 78th minute. Substitute Jack Timberlake, one of the academy products, marked his appearance with a fine finish, capping off an impressive move and making it 4-1.
The final whistle blew with Slough Town securing a convincing victory. Goals from Spasov, Lucan, Timberlake, and a trialist ensured the Rebels ended their pre-season on a high note. The performance, characterised by sharp attacking play and solid defending, will give manager Scott Davies and his team a confidence boost ahead of their National League South season opener.
