Slough Town secured another pre-season win with goals from John Gilbert, Slavi Spasov, and two from a trialist against Isthmian League, Premier League side Potters Bar Town.
The pre-season clash began energetically with both Slough Town and Potters Bar Town displaying attacking intent from the outset. Charlie Horlock was tested early on and made a crucial double save within the first ten minutes, maintaining the scoreline at 0-0.
Despite the lively start, clear goal-scoring opportunities were scarce throughout much of the first half. Slough Town began to assert more control as the half progressed, with efforts from Leon Chambers-Parillon and John Gilbert narrowly missing the target.
The breakthrough came in the 39th minute when David Ogbonna was brought down inside the box, earning Slough a penalty. John Gilbert stepped up and confidently converted, giving the Rebels a 1-0 lead. However, Potters Bar Town quickly responded, levelling the score at 1-1 through a well-placed header from a corner just four minutes later.
As the first half drew to a close, Slavi Spasov showcased his skill by finding space between two defenders and firing a low shot into the bottom corner, restoring Slough’s lead at 2-1 right before the halftime whistle.
The second half saw Slough Town make several changes, with further substitutions made on the hour mark, including a change in goal with Hugo Sobte replacing Charlie Horlock. The Rebels continued to press forward, and Sam Evans nearly extended their lead in the 65th minute, only to see his effort ruled out for offside following a deflected shot from Ogbonna.
Slough's persistence paid off in the 74th minute. After some excellent build-up play, the ball was delivered to Evans inside the box, who unselfishly squared it to trialist Kweku Lucan to finish, making it 3-1. Just three minutes later, Lucan latched onto a through ball, and although his initial shot was deflected, the ensuing play saw Evans and Lucan combine once more to score Slough's fourth goal.
Looking ahead, Slough will next face Hanwell Town away in another pre-season fixture next Saturday. The Rebels will be eager to continue their strong form as they prepare for the upcoming National League South campaign.
