Slough Town continued their perfect pre-season campaign with a dominant 7-1 victory over AFC Dunstable at Arbour Park. This fourth consecutive win for the Rebels included goals from six different sources.
The evening began on a high note with the announcement of the signing of midfielder Henry Ochieng. His inclusion in the starting lineup set the tone for a commanding display from the home side.
Slough wasted no time asserting their dominance. Just two minutes into the match, David Ogbonna showcased his clinical finishing, scoring emphatically via the underside of the crossbar to give the Rebels an early lead. Slavi Spasov came close to doubling the advantage shortly after, striking the post following a superb low cross from a trialist.
The pressure continued, and in the 28th minute, Josh Jackman’s precision cross found Spasov, who made no mistake with his header to make it 2-0. Despite a few good chances for Sam Evans, the visiting keeper managed to keep the scoreline from extending further.
However, Ogbonna was not to be denied, and in the 34th minute, he netted his second of the night with a composed finish into the bottom corner. AFC Dunstable managed to pull one back in the 37th minute, but it did little to dampen Slough’s momentum. Ogbonna had a chance to secure a first-half hat-trick, but the opposition keeper denied him just before the break.
The first half ended with Slough leading 3-1, thanks to Ogbonna’s brace and Spasov’s header, with the Rebels creating numerous opportunities and showcasing their attacking prowess.
The second half saw several changes for Slough, including the introduction of four trialists.
In the 59th minute, John Ufuah was replaced by one of the trialists, who soon made a significant impact. A bit of luck and excellent play between John Gilbert and Ollie Spicer led to an audacious rabona finish from the trialist in the 62nd minute, extending Slough’s lead to 4-1.
The same trialist turned provider five minutes later, assisting Spicer for a well-taken goal. The 67th minute strike highlighted the fluidity and creativity in Slough’s play. Gilbert’s dazzling footwork in the 80th minute nearly resulted in another goal, but Spicer’s shot was saved by the keeper.
Slough continued to press forward, and in the 82nd minute, Gary Abisogun cut inside and fired a powerful shot that beat the keeper at the near post, making it 6-1. The relentless attacking display culminated in a final goal in the 85th minute, as a combination between Spicer and the rabona-scoring trialist set up John Gilbert for a simple tap-in.
The win leaves the Rebels in high spirits as they prepare for their next pre-season fixture away to Chertsey Town on Saturday afternoon.
