After last week’s defeat, Slough got back to winning ways in the Suburban League as they claimed a forceful victory against Corinthian Reserves on Tuesday night at Arbour Park, writes Adam Novysedlák.
Slough started the game very active and in the opening minutes set the tone for the rest of the game.
The first chance was seen in the third minute, when Ada Okorogheye found Harry Williams with a cheeky pass behind Corinthian’s back line, but Williams’ shot went wide.
Slough later had a free kick which was taken by Eitel Goueth, who curled it over the wall but the away goalkeeper made a great save to keep the score goalless.
However, from the following chance Goueth came out successful in the battle with the keeper. Rebels’ midfielder got the ball at the edge of the box, played with his defenders and struck the ball into the net. 1-0
In the 20th minute it was already a margin of two goals. Okorogheye won the ball thanks to the home team’s high press, he sent it forward to Goueth who chipped it over the goalkeeper and doubled his goal tally. 2-0
Okorogheye contributed to the third goal, too. The Slough forward showed a great individual effort at the end of which he found Williams in the box, who put the ball into bottom corner. 3-0
Before the break the Rebels added two more goals. Goueth switched roles and from being the goal-scorer, he became the assistant when his cross found Junayd Shawwal’s head to make it 4-0.
The fifth goal came after Williams made a good run into the box, followed it with a shot which was deflected by The Hoops’ defender into his own net. 5-0
After a half full of goals, Slough came into the second half with the aim to control the play and add another goal.
For the sixth goal, the fans had to wait till the 72nd minute but it was again the home team which was celebrating. It was a goal of two substitutes as Jake Dawes found Sam Winsbury at the far post with his cross, who headed it home. 6-0
The last goal was scored by Oliver Holmes in the 76th minute. A dangerous ball into the box wasn’t cleared by the visitors’ defence and Holmes slid in for his debut goal for the U23s. 7-0
After Chippenham only drew against Aldershot on the same evening, Rebels remain second in the Suburban League, only one point behind The Bluebirds with one game remaining.
