Thanks to three goals in the second half, the Rebels defeated Oxford City 4-1 and ensured that all three points remained at Arbour Park, writes Adam Novysedlák.
Slough started with a high attacking active press, which brought them the first big chance when Harry Williams tried to surprise Oxford’s keeper Riley Pledge with a shot at the near post, but Pledge coped with it.
It was an unfortunate night for Rebels’ Rowan Smith who had to be replaced after 20 minutes of play due to a left hamstring injury.
Only a few seconds later Williams was tackled from behind which earned Slough a penalty kick. Eitel Goueth took the ball and confidently struck the ball down the middle to give the Rebels a 1-0 lead.
Slough controlled the game for most of the first half but from occasional chances, the Hoops managed to get an equaliser. Harry Linch made a good run down the left wing and got the ball into the box which Latrell Humphrey-Eners converted into an equalising goal around three minutes before the half time whistle. 1-1
Rebels started the second half with a few good chances, but a second goal came after an hour of play. Williams got the ball in the middle of the pitch, made a solo run to the edge of the box and didn’t give Oxford’s goalkeeper any chance to save his shot which went into the bottom corner. 2-1
Slough continued their attacking display and were rewarded with a third goal in the 74th minute. Alfonso Tenconi passed it into the box and Sam Winsbury got the ball past Hoops’ keeper and into the net. 3-1
Oxford had to play last 10 minutes with 10 players as substitute Johnis Lleshi had to leave the pitch with an injury, with manager Lloyd Owers having used all his substitutions.
Emmanuel Nwokebuife used this advantage in added time for the fourth goal, as his shot from the outside of the box got deflected in the middle to get into the net. 4-1
Rebels got back to winning ways after they lost their last game away against Aldershot Town, and remained at the top of the Suburban Football League.
