Slough Town Ladies travelled to Haddenham full of confidence after a super away win at unbeaten Kidlington, but knowing the game was going to be just as tough against a side with only one defeat in their first five games.
This seemed to be an even tougher challenge when the playing surface was a huge disappointment.
Slough started slowly with misplaced passes going astray and the ladies finding it difficult to get any foothold in the game. Haddenham were doing most of the early attacking and it wasn’t long before they opened the scoring.
Slough had been caught a few times with the ball over the top, and got away with it but on this occasion were caught flat-footed leaving Haddenham’s lively striker one-on-one with the goalkeeper, making no mistake from close range for the opening goal.
The Slough supporters who had travelled hoped that this would be the wake-up call the Rebels needed, but it has Haddenham who were looking to add to their tally.
Slough were struggling to adapt to the pitch and for the first time were outmuscled in the challenge. It was a bit of relief to have the half time whistle come with just a one goal difference between the teams.
The second half started slightly better for Slough as they seemed to adjust to the playing surface and started finding their early season form by creating a few chances.
But Haddenham were very competitive in defending their lead. On 65 minutes a couple of changes were made which gave Slough new impetus and for the first time Slough were getting on top.
It came as no surprise when on 77 minutes a through ball by Nicole found Abbie Canvin to bring the game back all square.
At this point most thought Slough would get a second goal as they were creating most of the chances, but some sloppy play in midfield resulted in the ball being given away. Again, the ball was played over the top allowing Haddenham to race through to score their second goal, a position from which Slough could not recover.
