Friendly Attendance: 1348 Tom Derry
Slough Town rounded off their pre-season preparations with a win against a young Arsenal team in front of a crowd of 1,348 at Arbour Park.

The Rebels made a strong start with Max Worsfold winning an early corner after Matt Lench worked hard to dispossess Reuell Walters.

And soon after, Slough took the lead. Mark Nisbet’s diagonal pass found Sean Fraser in acres of space, and the Rebels full-back played an early ball into the box which Tom Derry touched past Remy Mitchell and into the far corner.

From kick-off, Arsenal immediately went on the attack with a long pass forward being seized upon by Amani Richards, but Jonathan North blocked with an outstretched leg.

Slough responded with Fraser and Paul Hodges combining well on the right after a pass out from the back by Lench. Hodges played the ball across to Worsfold in space, whose low cross was turned behind by Walters. From the resulting corner, Lench’s delivery was met by Derry, whose powerful header bounced down and into the roof of the net with Mitchell unable to claw it away.

It was almost 3-0 on 41 minutes, but Eitel Goueth blazed over from twelve yards after determined work from Hodges to beat his man and advance into the box

On the stroke of half time Slough went closer still. A one-two between Goueth and Freddie Grant led to Goueth running into the box and laying the ball back for Grant, but Mitchell saved his effort.

Slough made changes at the break, with Goueth, Lench and Lee Togwell replaced by Joe Lawal, George Hunt and Aaron Kuhl.

Two minutes into the second period, Derry flicked a pass through for Hunt, whose low cross was perfect for Hodges, but Arsenal defender Elian Quesada-Thorn blocked.

Derry, looking for a hat-trick, then saw a downward header from Worsfold’s corner easily held.

Arsenal had rarely threatened North’s goal, but on 49 minutes James Sweet found some space to run into, however he dragged his shot wide.

The young Gunners started to put together some threatening attacks, and on the hour mark Timi Henry-Davies’ cross was cleared in the goalmouth by Nisbet.

Five minutes later, a sumptuous pass from Jimi Gower set Henry-Davies free down the left, but his ball in to the near post found Kaleel Green in an offside position.

North was called upon to pull off a flying save from Mauro Bandeira, who let fly from 25 yards on 74 minutes.

The Slough stopper then produced an equally impressive save from Charles Sagoe, who showed quick feet on the edge of the box before whipping in a right-footed effort, but the young Arsenal side could not find a goal to show for their efforts.
