The Rebels fell to 4-2 home defeat by Weymouth in their penultimate home pre-season outing, with Andreas Robinson bagging a double for the visitors at Arbour Park.

A first-half brace from Ben Harris proved to be the highlight for Slough, but finishes from Coady Cooke and Jake McCarthy in the second half were enough to see out the win for the Terras.

Slough started with intensity and gained the first clear-cut opportunity to take the lead early on. Matt Lench latched onto a quickly taken free kick to go one-on-one with Bycroft, but the goalkeeper stood firm to deny the midfielder.

But a goal soon followed for the hosts ten minutes into play. Weymouth were caught out again by an early play as Lench’s short corner allowed Jack McKnight space to deliver a pinpoint cross to the head of Ben Harris on the edge of the six-yard box. The striker made no mistake in guiding the ball into bottom corner while the visitors appealed for an offside flag.

But the visitors wasted little time in applying pressure from the restart in search of an early equaliser.

Cooke found space approaching the Slough defence, before picking out Robinson on the edge of the area. The attacker’s low-drilled effort flew hard and central towards Jack Turner’s goal, and although the goalkeeper got a touch, the power of the shot levelled the score 15 minutes into proceedings.

The Rebels showed no signs of a dent in confidence and yet another piece of fantastic link-up play put the hosts ahead once again.

Lench turned provider for Harris, with the former placing a perfectly timed cross over the heads of the Weymouth defence, allowing the striker to flick in his second of the match.

But the Terras levelled again shortly before the half-time whistle when Robinson’s curling free kick found the top corner, leaving Turner with little chance of making the stop.

The second half got underway and Ada Okorogheye, who was one of four substitutes made during the interval, almost made an instant impact after manoeuvring through the Weymouth back four before seeing his effort blocked for a corner.

Slough continued to build on possession in the early stages of the second half, and Lench’s right-footed strike went whiskers away from retaking the advantage 60 minutes in.

But the visitors fought back and went close to taking the lead for the first time when Camp’s glancing, near-post header ricocheted off the crossbar.

Momentum started to grow for Weymouth and they took advantage on the 75th minute. Cooke reacted first from a deflected, post-bound shot to nod the visitors ahead, with the Slough defenders left frustrated and appealing for an offside flag.

And the visitors rounded off the win just moments from the full-time whistle when McCarthy’s dipping free kick looped over the wall and into the bottom corner to make the score 4-2.
