SLOUGH Town were beaten 2-1 by a Tottenham Hotspur side in a friendly at Wexham Park on Tuesday evening.

Despite the fact it was a foggy evening a good crowd of about 500 watched the match which proved a useful work out for both sides. Included in the Tottenham side were Eire international defenders Chris Hughton and Jimmy Holmes along with first team squad players Milija Aleksic, Peter Southey and Mark Falco.

The match was played in three halves of 35 minutes to give both sides the opportunity of using a number of different permutations. Making a welcome return for the Rebels was left back Vic Akers, who had been out with an ankle injury since the Barking match on December 6. Akers played in the last two halves and seemed to show no side effects from the injury that at one stage was feared would keep him side-lined for the remainder of the season.

Mark Falco put Tottenham ahead in the second half with a superb shot into the top corner from 25 yards. Eric Young equalised for the Rebels with a header from a Barry Friend corner in the third period. But then 15 minutes from time it was Young who gave Spurs victory when he headed a Holmes cross past his own goalkeeper Frank Parsons.

Slough also had two efforts disallowed by the referee. Firstly when Young headed home a Pat Morrissey corner and later when Rowan Dodds scored, only for the referee to award Slough a free-kick for a foul before the ball went into the net.
