It would seem unlikely and would certainly be harsh in the extreme, but if the Vauxhall Conference Committee - due to meet last night - decide to take three points from Slough for fielding an ineligible player, then Alan Davies and his side have serious problems.
Not that the issue should have become relevant. It should have been a minor irritation at the end of the season.
Instead on the committee's decision hangs Slough's Conference future. A fine would be comfortably the preferred choice, because Slough with 44 points at present sit in 16th place, needing one more win to assure them of safety; even a point would probably be enough.
The loss of three however would see them slip to 19th position, one point ahead of Cheltenham and three in front of the side that they must play on Saturday, Kidderminster Harriers.
Six successive league defeats have suddenly thrown Slough into a position of such danger, six games in which consolation goals by Darren Anderson at Farnborough and Steve Scott at Colchester have been their only respite.
The latest tale of woe and by far the most dispiriting came on Easter Monday at Wexham Park as sorry Slough collapsed against a rampant Farnborough side showing some of their early season form.
Slough hit by injuries to Pluckrose, Donnellan and McKinnon fielded an untried front line and it failed them.
Unfortunately for Tony Knight it was a rotten way to mark his 300th appearance for the club, seen by a crowd of 784.
The returning Booker and Reid had early chances at each end and it did seem that Rebels should have got a penalty when a Farnborough hand appeared to a clearance from Whitby.
However once Read struck on 25 minutes, after exchanging passes with Leworthy, the game was as good as over.
Read got his second turning well and firing past Watkiss, and Leworthy grabbed the third.
Cockram added the fourth after Booker, Fielder and Anderson all missed opportunities and Rogers raced through to complete Slough's miserable afternoon.
