DAVID RUSSELL joined Slough Town's growing injury list when he limped off during Saturday's defeat at Croydon.

An ankle injury forced him to leave the field in the 61st minute and it effectively ended Slough's hopes of salvaging a point.

Russell was the only player who showed any flair in a Slough side missing Mick Kiely, Paul Lee, Steve Norman and Eric Young.

It was their worst display so far this season despite the return of Tim Turl in the centre of the defence. Peter Feely wasted their best chance when he volleyed high over the bar in the 21st minute after the goalkeeper had pushed away an Ian Cooke corner.

Croydon took the lead eight minutes from half time with a superb goal. Right back Barry Constable sent a 40 yard pass which Alec Jackson collected on the edge of the area before shooting past the Teale.

Barry Metcalfe and Peter Feely were making little impression up front and a disputed penalty in the 81st minute put the result beyond all doubt. The ball seemed to hit Ian Cooke on the shoulder, but referee Brian O'Leary pointed to the spot and Croydon captain Barry Walker blasted the ball into the right hand corner.
