SLOUGH Town faded after a bright start and it took a huge slice of luck and a brilliant save to earn them a point in Thursday's disappointing Isthmian League game.

The slice of luck came in the 32nd minute when almost everyone - except the referee and his linesman - felt Croydon should have had a penalty.

Keeper Teale could only knock Pooley's header to Ward who nodded the ball just under the bar where Mackay somehow flicked it over. Croydon's players shouted for 'hands' but after consulting the linesman, referee Mr. G Prevett gave a corner from which Beyer had to clear off the line from Prime.

A brilliant save 20 minutes from the end when Teale went full length to claw away bullet-like header from Walker ensured Slough a point.

The visitors, who had to replace injury-victim Ward with substitute Sears after 35 minutes, had held the initiative in the first-half.

But Slough had the edge after the break with Kiely racing through following a delightful pass by Cooke to bring a great save from advancing keeper Cobb. Lee sent Kiely clear again in the 67th minute but this time he shot wide.

With 13 minutes left Slough sent on substitute Metcalfe for Friend and threw everything into attack. But it was all too frenzied and Croydon held out to gain a deserved draw.
