SLOUGH Town moved into the next round of the FA Trophy with an excellent performance that rocked the Surrey side.
Only recently knocked out of the FA Cup, Woking thought they were in with a good chance of a Wembley appearance, but this Slough side, with skill and a workmanlike display deserved the trip to Kent to meet Maidstone United.
Slough were forced to take the field without Peter Feely, who has a hamstring injury. Barry Metcalfe celebrated his return by scoring two excellent goals, and gave Micky Preston a difficult match, while Richard Strong showed dominance over Eggie James, the player on whom Woking were pinning their hopes.
Woking kicked off facing the Town end and the first ten minutes saw both sides playing some good football but in the 12th minute Slough Town took the lead with a splendid goal when good work between Russell and Kiely saw the latter cross to Metcalfe who headed past Parsons.
Slough almost surrendered their lead early in the second half when John Beyer, running back to his own goal, passed back to Teale who had left his area and conceded a free kick on the edge of the area which fortunately came to nothing.
After this let off Slough began to lose rhythm a little, Paul Lee replaced Kiely and it was Lee who helped to turn the tide in Slough's favour with a quarter of an hour remaining, when he seized on an error by Brendon O'Sullivan only to be brought down just outside the penalty area. Alan Gane chipped the ball to the near post where Lee headed unchallenged past Parsons.
Four minutes later Ian Cooke, Barry Metcalfe, and Dave Russell combined well and forced a corner that was wasted. But as Woking pushed desperately forward, Russell and Lee picked up a clearance and exchanged passes to split the Woking defence, Russell crossing to Metcalfe who shot past Parsons to put the issue beyond all doubt.
