League Peter Feely
Peter Feely, recalled to first team duty a week after returning from a four-month stay in Hong Kong, grabbed the 13th minute goal which gave Slough three welcome Isthmian League points on Tuesday.

Feely, who went to Hong Kong to work as a chartered surveyor and played in the First Division of the national league while he was there, found it hard to adjust to the pace of Isthmian League soccer and missed a great chance before making amends with his coolly-taken goal.

But Feely - brought in to replace the unfit Barry Metcalfe - was set a poor example by his team-mates. Slough squandered a host of scoring opportunities in the first-half and then fell away badly in the second period.

This was a great disappointment for their fans, who had seen Slough shake off the effects of their shock F.A. Cup defeat at Southall to produce a furious attacking burst in the opening 15 minutes.

Oxford's uncertain defence had two let-offs in the first four minutes. Lee's shot struck keeper Taylor as he tried to race back into position, and then Strong's goal-bound header hit team-mate Russell.

Not long afterwards Taylor almost toppled over his own goal line as he struggled to hold a lob from Kiely.

A goal had to come and it arrived in the 13th minute. Lee pounced on a defensive slip and when Kiely's shot was blocked by Taylor, Feely pounced on the rebound to hammer a low drive into the net.

Oxford, who had managed only one scoring attempt in the first 45 minutes - a Dallaway header which was off target - went close twice in the opening 10 minutes of the second-half. Dallaway forced the ball away from keeper Teale but Turl cleared, and soon afterwards Teale saved well from Boyland.

Slough had lost their early sparkle but they should have increased their lead when Lee went clear. He allowed Taylor to deflect the ball, and the keeper then saved Feely's follow-up attempt.
