Bishop’s Stortford are never an easy team to master and their position at the foot of the table belies the fact that they have drawn at Wycombe, Sutton and Leatherhead this season.
On Saturday the Bishops defended so successfully that in the end Slough were well satisfied to collect maximum points thanks to a solitary goal by Paul Lee in the 67th minute.
The crowd was disappointing, probably reflecting the fans' disappointment at Slough's exit from the FA Trophy the previous week coupled with the fact that there is very little left for the Rebels to win this season.
During the early stages the Bishops set a hot pace and Barron was called upon quite often while Turl also had to make some urgent clearances.
At the other end Terry Brown went close with a splendid "header" in the 12th minute. Some good crosses went begging, none of the Slough strikers being able to turn them to advantage.
As half-time approached both goals had a let off. Brown looked a certain scorer when he was thwarted by Kitson the Stortford goalkeeper who had a great day between the "sticks."
The visitors' big chance came thanks to a surprise shot from a Bishop's player going wide of Barron and fortunately hitting a post when it looked certain the ball would find the back of the net.
Stortford were again lively in the early part of the second half and Barron brought off some super saves and there is no doubt he is one of the best keepers outside League football.
In the 67th minute Brown fed the ball to Lee who slipped it under the diving Kitson. This goal acted like a tonic to the Rebels and they stepped up their game with great efforts from Davies, Lee and Brown but they could not beat the brilliant Kitson.
