FA Trophy
Slough delighted their supporters with a Football Association Trophy victory over Dover at Wexham Park, on Saturday. After their recent reverses this success gives them a chance of getting into the big money in subsequent rounds.

Dover, came with the reputation of having beaten Colchester in a recent FA Cup tie but their display was disappointing and the Rebels should have won by a much wider margin.

After the minute's silence in memory of the late Councillor Reg. Abbott, the referee-Mr. Gunn from Southwick started four minutes early and Slough almost found themselves ahead before the advertised kick-off time when the ball was scrambled off the post in the first minute, then two excellent headers by Terry Brown caused consternation in the Dover defence.

In the 16th minute a well worked move saw Tim Smith shoot into Kevin Raine's arms but Raine was fortunate to grab a header from Pattison that appeared to be eluding him, and he was forced to make an excellent stretching save to concede a corner from Terry Brown's header in the 32nd minute.

However, with two minutes of the half left he was well beaten with another header and Reynolds punched the ball over the bar to concede a penalty. Home supporters were philosophical as Timmy Turl stepped up to the spot and they feared the worst as Raine dived to get his fingers to the fiercely struck shot, only to see the ball strike the inside of the post and rest safely in the net.

Shortly after the restart Terry Brown was just wide with a fine effort and Steve Hill was badly placed to spoil a fine build up, then Dover began to threaten the Slough defence with some unexpected aggression mainly through Coupland and Coxhill and Barron was forced to bring off two fine clearances in quick succession.

But it was something of a shock when Dave Waite was given too much room in the area and equalised with a soft shot off the inside of the post in the 66th minute.

Slough quickly countered and Tim Smith shot wildly with the goal at his mercy whilst Hill unaccountably passed to Roy Davies when he was clean through and the chance was wasted.

Then Coupland was just wide in the 80th for Dover and two minutes later Coxhill had Slough worried with a viciously dipping shot.

Five minutes later Pattison amid rejoicing scored the winner to put Slough through at the end of an entertaining match that had never been spoiled by the blustery wind which had made it difficult for players throughout.
