In wintry weather these teams met at the Dolphin before a meagre attendance on Saturday, the ground being on the slippery side.
Staines came a man short, Young having missed the train and consequently played one short throughout. It was a scrambling unsteady game. In the first half Slough had matters almost their own way and play was carried on for the most part in the visitor’s half.
Despite this, however, Slough did not much improve their goal average, chiefly owing to the brilliant display of Higgs, the Staines custodian.
Directly after the start the homesters swarmed their opponent’s goal, and the custodian made two fine saves from Wright and Wilmot.
Five minutes from the start Serls scored from a capital centre by Hopkins.
After this Slough did all the pressing and although they obtained a dozen or more corners, they could not find the net, the Staines goalkeeper being repeatedly applauded for his magnificent defence.
After half hours play Smith secured a second goal.
Just on half time Cummings made a good attempt and Crocker was a trifle lucky to get rid of his shot at the expense of a corner. At half time the homesters led by two goals to nil.
In the second half Staines played up wonderfully well, and several times they pressed severely and were within an ace of scoring.
After having a rest, Slough went at it again, but owing to the excellent display of the goalkeeper it was a long time before Kent added a third goal, and Slough won by three goals to nil.
