Mort Raine

Bio

One of the most experienced forwards within the Slough line up at the time, and certainly one of the smallest, was inside right Mort Raine. Mort, who at 22 years old and comes from Durham, played for Middlesbrough in the local youth league and graduated to the league team's reserve side at the age of 15. From there he joined Darlington and played for them on a number of occasions to their Fourth Division team and afterwards signed amateur forms for Aston Villa.

Then Mort went to Newland Park Training College, gaining a diploma in physical education before taking up a teaching appoint at Churchmead School, Datchet. It was when he was playing for a school masters team against a representative boys XI that he was "discovered" by Bob Gibbs, who was playing in the same side. Some intensive training followed and before long Mort was figuring regularly in the reserves line-up.

Mort graduated to the first team early in February where he has remained. Mort contributed greatly to the team with skilful and exuberant play. Mort lived in Old Windsor.
