We are pleased to announce Ed Lilley as the new manager of our Community Team, replacing Alan Meredith who stepped down in the summer.
Our Community Team is an adult football team, playing 7 and 11-a-side competitions and friendly matches throughout the south of the UK, offering an inclusive environment for regular football and exercise to players that cannot access mainstream football clubs. This programme enables adults with any disability to participate in regular organised football matches and coaching sessions in a safe and enjoyable environment. The programme encourages players to develop their health and independence and realise their full potential.
The team competes in the BOBi League (Berkshire, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Inclusive League), which provides competitive playing opportunities for children and adults who have physical and learning difficulties. The BOBi League serves the Thames Valley region and neighbouring counties.
Ed had the following to say on his appointment: “It’s hard to believe that it’s been three years since I first joined the club as a player. Since then, I’ve won BOBi League 1, become a captain and throughout it’s been a privilege to wear the amber Slough shirt, work with such talented teammates, and experience the unwavering support from the club and previous coaches.
“Playing for this club has truly been a rewarding journey, helping me through so much in my personal life and really having a positive outlet.
“Now, I’m moving into a Player/Manager role and the focus is on community engagement. This feels like the perfect way to give back to a place that has become a second home working with new and old faces.
“I’m eager to build on the success left by Alan Meredith and Alex Efthimiou and continue help make the Community Team a welcoming, supportive, and inclusive space for everyone. We’ve had our first 11-a-side game and have taken plenty from that, and our BOBi (7-a-side teams) have performed well at the first tournament of the season.
“Although we don’t have an 11-a-side tournament this year we’re looking to get more 11-a-side games booked in. Training is at Arbour Park every other Sunday, 11:30 am to 1:00 pm.
“I would like to thank Alan and Alex for their support as coaches and Alex in particular for being critical and always taking time to help me break down sessions and go through session planning. Also to Mandy, Gloria, Peter and Kay for their support on and off the field.
