When the chance came around to return it was the easiest decision ever, and I’m looking forward to helping the boys build on the positive start to the season
Johnny Goddard
We are delighted to welcome Johnny Goddard back to the club on a permanent basis.
Goddard, 31, made 96 appearances for the club across two seasons, scoring 25 goals in the process after joining from St Albans City in June 2022. He had an exceptional 2023/24 campaign which saw him score 19 goals, winning him the Golden Boot, as well as Supporters’ Trust Player of the Season, Players’ Player of the Season and international recognition with an England C cap. He departed for Boreham Wood in the summer, but now rejoins Scott Davies’ squad and is available for selection today at Farnborough.
Scott Davies commented: “Johnny returning is great news for everyone. I think it’s fair to say that things haven’t panned out the way that he would have hoped during his time at Boreham Wood, and as soon as I heard that there was a chance of signing him, I was desperate to make it happen.
“Johnny will be joining as part of the management team where he will be working in a player/coach role, assisting Alex Tokarczyk. Having had his UEFA A licence for several years now, it seems the perfect time for him to slowly make the transition into bringing his experience to the table, which I’m sure will be invaluable.
“It should remain clear that Johnny’s main focus is to play, especially off the back of an incredible season for us last year which we hope he can build on again this season after a solid start from the rest of the group.
“I also want to thank the board for helping us get this over the line.”
On returning to Arbour Park, Johnny Goddard said: “I’m absolutely delighted to have the opportunity to come back to a club which I loved every minute being a part of and somewhere I have such great memories to build upon.
“When the chance came around to return it was the easiest decision ever, and I’m looking forward to helping the boys build on the positive start to the season. Knowing the quality we have in the dressing room and with the players added over the summer I’m sure we can kick on and continue to do well.
“For me it’s also a chance to get back doing what I love most – being on the pitch and playing with a smile on my face, with my family cheering us on at Arbour Park.
“It’s also exciting for me to be able to take on some more responsibility during the week at training, and if I can also help the boys improve a few percentage points that will only be a good thing, especially with all the young talent we have who have so much potential.
“Even in the short time I’ve been away, the club has made progress on and off the pitch and it’s exciting for me to be back amongst it and I can’t wait to see all the Rebels out in full force backing us loudly as always!”
On coach Alex Tokarczyk, Scott added: “Alex has been with us since day one of pre-season and worked tirelessly in helping the group become better. His enthusiasm, knowledge and commitment so far has been first class and he’s been someone that Yella (Tony Fontenelle) and I have extremely enjoyed working with, so it’s great to have him onboard.”
