Slough Town Football Club is teaming up with Slough Homeless Our Concern (SHOC) and Taskmaster star Alex Horne to host The Big Sleepout 2024 at Arbour Park.

SHOC, a volunteer-led group that has supported vulnerable people in the community for over 20 years, will hold its biggest fundraising event yet. On November 29th, up to 200 participants will brave the weather conditions and sleep out overnight to raise funds and awareness for the homeless in Slough. The event will also feature music, food vendors, and some Taskmaster-style games led by Alex Horne, who is an ambassador for SHOC.

The Big Sleepout will kick off at 7pm, with the evening's activities open to everyone who wishes to attend or donate. Live music and a variety of delicious food options from local vendors will be available. Following that, attendees can enjoy Taskmaster-inspired games, creating an experience that goes beyond just sleeping out. The pre-sleepout festivities will run until 10pm, after which participants will settle in to spend the night on the concrete concourse at Arbour Park. At 6am, everyone will wake up to hot refreshments as a thank you for their efforts.

Slough Town FC has previously supported the Big Sleepout, with staff and management joining in to help raise funds for this vital cause. Due to the current economic challenges, SHOC has seen a rise in registered users, with over 180 people seeking assistance. The organization provides essential support through its day centre at Quaker House on Ragstone Road, offering hot meals, mental health support, and job coaching. Contrary to popular belief, homelessness often precedes issues with substance abuse, not the other way around.

Slough Town FC Community Manager, Ade Gomm, said: "We are delighted as a club to be able to host such an important event with a charity that helps so many in this community. Homelessness affects people of all ages, genders, ethnicities, and religions. Many of you may know that one of our volunteers works for SHOC, and we have previously hosted clothing donations for the group. Football has a unique ability to break down barriers, and if we can help those who have fallen on hard times, that is a huge positive. We are also planning to provide a Christmas dinner in December for the homeless as well."
