We are delighted to announce an exciting partnership between Slough Town Football Club and Academy23, which will see an U23 squad launched for the 2020/21 season.
The U23 squad offers players a genuine club pathway and supports the transition from youth to senior football. Academy23 are specialists in nurturing player talent and have developed an elite programme which can offer talented players the opportunity to train full time.
Jon Underwood and Neil Baker commented:
"We see many positives from this partnership and are excited to see how it develops.
“We know Ashley (Smith) well and already have a very good relationship with him.
“Academy23 held a showcase event in 2018 which allowed us to identify Dan Roberts, who has been a real plus since signing for us. Along with his coaching team, Ashley will provide a great environment for these young lads to develop.
“We typically run with a smaller squad than most sides in our league and with the financial challenges that all clubs will face next season, this will not change. This partnership gives us an opportunity to tap in to the young talent that Ashley has identified, and for those lads doing well in that group there could be an opportunity to get a taste of senior non-league football with us.
“Sharing Arbour Park for training on Thursday nights will provide a valuable opportunity to keep a close eye on these players and to strengthen the partnership further."
The U23 squad will compete against other National League U23 teams and be tested with additional fixtures against professional opposition. Talent identification has commenced for the squad, led by Academy23 director Ashley Smith who said:
"The partnership is extremely exciting and will present an unrivalled platform with an elite professional environment.
“Our aim is to identify players who can progress into the first team squad.”
