During this unusual time, where everything is up in the air, it is difficult to make any plans for the next football season. People have far greater concerns than football in worrying about their health and that of their loved ones; financial worries and the stresses of lockdown life.
However, it also provides a period of inactivity to allow us time to reflect and start to make plans for the future, that we may not have had in the normal hustle and bustle of everyday life, albeit a future that we do not have a timescale for.
Slough Town Juniors had a trial date planned for 9th May 2020, in which young players would have been invited to come along to an open training session, show us what they can do and more importantly, try us out to see if as a club, we fitted their needs; meet the coaches and other players.
Obviously this is now not going to happen on the planned date, but we are keen to start to make preparations for the new season, whenever that might be, so although we cannot hold a physical session we are inviting expressions of interest from players in the following age groups next season:
• U8 Mixed (current Year 2)
• U10 Mixed (current Year 4)
• U13 Mixed (current Year 7)
• U15 Mixed (current Year 9) - we may look at starting a second team in this age range, if there is sufficient interest.
• U12 Girls (current Year 6) - this team moves up to 9-a-side next season so will be looking for several players to strengthen the current squad.
• U14 Girls (current Year 8) - this team moves up to 11-a-side next season so will be looking for a few players to strengthen the current squad.
Boys/mixed teams generally train on a Saturday morning, with matches on Sunday, and the girls teams train on Tuesday evenings and play their matches on Saturday mornings. Home matches are played at Mercian Way Recreation Ground in Cippenham with training taking place at Arbour Park.
Anyone who is interested in potentially joining any of the above teams should send an email, which includes their child’s name, date of birth and contact details to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Once the potential start date of next season is clearer, we will arrange a date to bring everyone together.
We are also looking to expand the coaching team with a couple of qualified coaches who are interested in helping to run a team for the 2020/21 season. One of these positions will be for our new U8 team. If you are interested, please use the same email address to express your interest.
