Slough Town Ladies knocked out of League Cup

Slough Town Ladies are knocked out of the League Cup by North Leigh.

01/10/19

North Leigh Ladies 3-0 Slough Town Ladies

Slough travelled to North Leigh on Sunday, to face their opponents in the first round of the League Cup.

Slough looked to break down a well drilled and physical North Leigh side, which was challenging. The Rebels started the game well, by moving the ball around and keeping possession, but were ultimately knocked out by the home side.

The first chance of the game fell to the Rebels after some good work down the left-hand side by Laiba Arshad. Laiba intercepted a pass midway in her own half, passed inside to Samantha Mackenzie, who played a one-two with Nicole Sandhu before releasing Shannon Daly down the left wing. Shannon cut inside, and her shot went narrowly passed the post.

North Leigh took the lead on the twenty-minute mark, after a miss placed pass gave the North Leigh striker a clear run on goal.

The home side dominated the rest of the half, adding another goal just minutes before half-time. Slough had battled hard in the first half but with no reward.

2-0 to North Leigh at the break.

The Rebels made three substitutions at half-time to get back into the game, and all made an impact. Slough started to gain control, with Brooke Pomeroy keeping the strikers quiet.

Samantha McKenzie & Harlie Clark started to win the midfield battle, which allowed the creative Lucy Passfield to push forward.

In a superb moment of attacking play that involved every Slough Ladies player, Lucy Passfield had a curling shot that brushed the outside of the post.

With ten minutes to go, the Rebels gambled and switched to a more attacking formation, but it was too late.

Shannon Daly put her last shot wide, and North Leigh countered, scoring their third.

This was a good test for the Ladies team against a team from the league above. Slough played the better football on the day, but with several chances wasted they will be kicking themselves. There were some great performances, but the Player of the Match goes to Samantha McKenzie.

Starting lineup: C Hetherington, L Arshad, C Hall, K Stenson, N Sangha, S McKenzie, S Daly, C Davies, L Passfield, A Heady, N Sandhu (c).
