Slough Town Ladies recorded their first victory of the season away at Guildford Saints.
The first half saw the Rebels create numerous chances with a mixture of good saves and poor finishing keeping them at bay.
Midway through the first half Samantha McKenzie received the ball under pressure in her own half, and a smart turn took her away from two Guildford players. She then played a well-weighted through ball down the left wing in between the Guildford right back and centre back for Alice Heady to run onto. She cut across the fullback and coolly finished into the bottom right hand corner to give Slough the lead.
McKenzie then had to leave the pitch shortly after due to a clash of heads, a blow for the visitors.
Slough Ladies started the second half very slowly which allowed Guildford a way back into the match. The game became very stretched and both teams were creating chances, with Rebels keeper Chloe Hetherington pulling off some fine saves. Finally though, Guildford took one of their chances to make it 1-1.
Straight from the restart the Rebels began dominating the game again. Nikhita Sangha made a driving run down the wing, winning a corner. From that corner Heady delivered a pin point cross which was met by the powerful head of Leanne Gibson, who made no mistake from 6 yards out - a well worked set piece making it 2-1 to the visitors.
The remainder of the game was end-to-end, with Slough creating further chances but failing to convert. There were lots of positives to take from the game apart from the first win of the season for the Rebels.
Slough’s Players of the Match were Harlie Clarke and Nikhita Sangha.
