Tommy Willard became the hat-trick hero for Farnborough as the home side got the better of the depleted Rebels, winning 4-1 at the Easy As HGV Stadium on Tuesday night, writes Adam Novysedlak.

It proved to be a tough day for player-manager Scott Davies, with Matt Lench and Lee Togwell unavailable due to illness and Temi Eweka late in arriving due to a car breakdown, putting his plans into disarray. Veteran striker Jefferson Louis was initially called upon to take a place on the bench, but as plans changed again, he made the starting lineup and completed the full 90 minutes.

Farnborough’s Mason Bloomfield tested Will Dennis early on but his attempt in third minute went straight into the Slough keeper’s gloves.

Slough then had a good chance as Scott Davies managed to strike another good free kick but Farnborough goalkeeper Jack Turner managed to push his effort over the bar.

Another chance for the Rebels to open the scoring came just after 20 minutes, but Ogo Obi’s shot from the edge of the box was deflected for a corner.

The hosts took the lead in 25th minute when Tommy Willard received a good ball after a counterattack opportunity, and he curled the ball into the bottom far corner of Slough’s goal.

Farnborough could have doubled their lead but Selim Saled failed to punish the error in Slough’s defence when his shot was saved by Dennis.

However, the home team got a two-goal advantage shortly after. Freddie Grant won the header after a long throw-in and Mason Bloomfield put the ball past Dennis.

Six minutes into the second half, Ogo Obi brought travelling Rebels fans some hope when he got his name on the scoresheet. Gabe George put a long ball into the box, which Obi won ahead of Kevin Lokko, before rounding Turner and scoring into the empty net.

Slough’s happiness didn’t last too long as four minutes later Willard scored his second goal. Another counterattack chance was finished by Willard who slotted the ball into the bottom corner of Dennis’s goal.

Obi then tried to add another goal and reduce the gap to one goal again, but his effort was stopped by Turner who made a good save.

Slough tried to change things by bringing two fresh attacking players from the bench in Louis Walsh and Imran Kayani. Kayani’s biggest chance came ten minutes before the full-time whistle when his shot at the far corner was cleared on the goal-line by Farnborough’s defence.

Willard completed his hat-trick in the 90th minute when he got the ball into the box and scored into the bottom corner with another clinical finish.

Slough recorded their second defeat in a row and will look to break the run in a huge game against league leaders Ebbsfleet United which will be also televised on BT Sport 3.
