Weston-super-Mare scored a quickfire double early in the second half as Slough fell to a frustrating defeat in Somerset.

Slough began the game the brighter of the two sides and applied significant pressure to the Weston back four.

It would not take long for the Rebels to have their first sight of goal as Ben Harris drove through the Weston midfield, but his long-range effort flew wide.

Chances of a similar vein continued with Warren Harris striking from the edge of the box, but the ball flashed just past the post.

The best chance of the first half fell to Ben Harris after his bursting run found him through to face Weston goalkeeper Luke Purnell, who made the first of many crucial saves, earning him the home side’s Man of the Match award.

The half continued with Slough continually being denied by the Weston shot-stopper. Purnell clawed away a Chris Flood header, Ben Harris wriggled free again with a lovely turn but fired into the keeper’s gloves, and Lee Togwell was also unable to beat him from the edge of the 18-yard box.

It would not be until the end of the first half that Weston would apply any significant pressure, as full back George Nurse found space on the left-hand side to fire his cross-come-shot wide of the mark.

At half-time the scores were level with the Rebels feeling frustrated that they had not found the back of the net.

The second half began in frustrating fashion as following a Slough Town corner, the north Somerset side broke quickly with Jennison Myrie-Williams setting up Jacob Cane to finish what was seemingly their first clear sight of goal.

Weston would double their lead just three minutes later as some intricate play sent Marlon Jackson through on goal, and the striker placed his effort away from Jack Turner.

Following this, Slough continued to apply significant pressure for the remainder of the game with Chris Flood having his effort cleared off the line.

A wonderful flicked pass by Ben Harris sent Lee Togwell into what was seemingly acres of space, but his effort also flew wide of Purnell’s net, whilst Flood also aimed a free header straight at the keeper from a left wing cross.

Despite the continued pressure, Slough could not quite fashion any more clear-cut opportunities as the second half came to a close.

A frustrating trip to the seaside for the Rebels, who will be looking to bounce back on Tuesday away from home against Billericay Town.
