A late winner by new Bognor Regis signing Cyril 'Biz' Russell upset Slough's splendid two month unbeaten league record on Tuesday night- but they're still four points clear at the top of the Vauxhall Opel League.

There was some doubt about Russell's eligibility to play against the Rebels as Rocks manager Jack Pearce signed the ex- Southwick striker just 24 hours before the game - but new legislation brought in this year allows any player to sign the same day thanks to a wonder of modern technology- the facsimile.

The Biz struck after a strong run by Bognor centre back Graham Marriner found him in some space in the Rebels half - he showed a quick turn of pace and unleashed an unstoppable drive past the unfortunate Trevor Bunting just seven minutes from time.

Bunting had previously produced marvels in between the sticks as Bognor dominated the first half with penetrating wing attacks, displaying a string of fine saves, most notably from a Russell Burtenshaw blast.

Slough boss Alan Davies said "He played ever so well on Saturday and last night but he has had three goals put past him- he just doesn't deserve it. We worked very hard last night and it was a good game but we also didn't deserve to lose. Neal Stanley's been scoring, Thommo's been scoring and we created a few chances in the second half that we should have taken and the players are a little bit sick".

Tony Dennis came closest to netting the opener for Slough when two shots ballooned over the bar and Neal Stanley was unlucky when a first half strike cannoned against the post. " They shaded the first half and we the second but we just couldn't find the net" added Davies.

Bognor now have a much changed side from the start of the season after the loss of players through injury and to Football League sides and Russell is the latest addition to a rebuilt squad.

Slough pressed the home side after the interval with Steve Thompson only once beating the offside trap only to be smothered by the Bognor 'keeper. But with Hendon losing 1-3 to Wokingham at home, Slough remain at the top of the league and manager Alan Davies anticipates a tough fixture against Dagenham who beat Kingstonian midweek. "They didn't have a very good start to the season but since then have gained some good results and we won't be treating them lightly" concluded Davies.
