SLOUGH gave warning to the rest of the Isthmian League that they intend to lift the Premier Division title, by emphatically beating Carshalton on Saturday.

After an indifferent first 45 minutes the Rebels produced a magical display.
Dave Russell justified manager Laurie Churchill's decision to give him a striking role because of Eggie James' absence through injury by scoring two goals. He gave Slough the lead in the 58th minute by firing home a low cross from Micky O'Sullivan.

Pat Morrissey made it 2-0 in the 70th minute when he beat left-back John Jefferson and drove the ball past goalkeeper Dave Cobb from 20 yards.

Within seconds Carshalton's Tommy Mason was booked for a bad foul on Keith White but fortunately there was no repeat of the ill-tempered clash between the two sides at Wexham Park in March when the Surrey club had three players sent off.

Slough's goalkeeper Richard Teale had been booked just before half-time for kicking the ball away after conceding a throw-in. The Rebels were more intent on winning, rather than involving themselves in a feud, and their dominance during the second-half was further reflected in the scoreline when Russell scored his second of the game with 12 minutes left.

Keith White slipped past one tackle and then beat the keeper but his shot was going wide of the far post until Russell arrived to turn it into an empty net.
