Slough Town Ladies came out on top in this meeting of the only remaining unbeaten teams in Division 2.

Both teams made a tentative start, with the majority of the game being contested in the centre of the park. Slough settled the quickest and were controlling the game, though chances were very few and far between and Kidlington only looked dangerous on the counter as they had a very fast forward line.

Slough quickly adapted to the threat and played a slightly deeper defensive line nullifying the threat and then took control. Chances were still hard to create, but Slough kept probing. Lauren Broadhurst released Nikhita Sangha down the right hand side, and she took on the fullback on the outside and then cut back inside and won a corner.

Alice Heady delivered a great corner right onto the penalty spot, and after a goalmouth scramble, Bonnie Messitt played the ball across goal and Abi Canvin slotted home to put Slough a goal ahead on 18 minutes.

After some good work from Sam Mckenzie, Heady was released down the left wing. She cut back inside and played the ball infield to Abi Canvin, whose first-time layoff set up Lauren Broadhurst for a shot which the Kidlington keeper saved well.

Towards the end of the first half Killington’s fast winger broke down the right hand side and unleashed a powerful shot, which Slough keeper Sophie Cheadle parried and then gathered at the second attempt.

Right on half time another long ball into Slough’s defensive line saw Kidlington break again, and this time they won the first header and slotted home the equalising goal.

After a good discussion at the break Slough come out looking pumped, and the half-time chat had an instant impact. The Ladies were on the front foot, with Emma Wilkinson winning possession in her own half; she passed to Broadhurst who ran at the Kidlington defence before playing a perfect through ball for Canvin to run on to, and from the edge of the area she shot across the keeper and buried the ball into the bottom left hand corner of the net - a superb move with a great strike to finish.

Kidlington responded to going a goal behind by pushing players further up the pitch and the game became a lot more physical. The midfield battle was fierce, and Slough came out on top. Always in control, the Ladies played some nice flowing football in patches, particularly down the left hand side with Laiba Arshad and Alice Heady linking very well together.

Midway through the second half, Slough made two changes with Nellie Cooke coming on for Emma Wilkinson and Harlie Clark coming on for Sam McKenzie. Nellie slotted in at right back and Harlie sat as the holding midfielder to see out the game.

With no more chances created, Slough come away with a great 2-1 away victory and remain the only unbeaten team in Division 2.

This fantastic team performance sees Slough maintain their 100% start to the season. The players looked as if they were working and pulling in the same direction, the work rate and commitment was second to none. Players of the match were Sam McKenzie and Laiba Arshad, who were both superb.
