Slough slipped to a single goal defeat against Ascot United of the Hellenic League in Saturday's lunchtime kick-off.

Chris Henry looked to be the key threat for Slough early on, but Ascot defended well and largely prevented him from getting the ball into dangerous positions.

Ascot took the lead in the first half with a strike into the bottom corner, after Mark Scott had saved an initial effort with his legs.

Shortly after, Ascot were awarded a penalty after a trip from Wes Harrison, but Scott superbly dived to his right to keep out the spot-kick.

Slough rung the chances at half time, introducing Jamie McClurg, Adrian Sear and Nathan Webb, with the returning Adam Martin dropping back to partner Harrison at centre-back.

Ascot had the better chances, and spurned a good chance to go 2-0 up when a strike from their right winger flew over after he managed to get in behind Callum Webb.

Slough struggled to test Ascot's goalkeeper, and could only offer a strike from Lewis Putman - which flew wide of the post after good work from Eddie Smith to flick the ball on - as the Yellamen claimed a deserved victory.

Slough's final pre-season match is at Holloways Park against Wealdstone on Monday evening.
