The first of the League matches between these old opponents attracted a capital gate at the Dolphin ground, Slough, on Saturday. The Norfolks were without Jones, who was assisting Marlow in their Eastbourne Charity Cup tie, T. Adaway partnering J. Harrington at back.

Slough were resting Reg Young, T. Cox going outside right.

Maidenhead had the advantage of the wind in the first half, and pressed severely at the outset, Werrell saving three hot shots from Beasley, Moore and Goom.

Maidenhead were urged on by their supporters and led by Goom, who was playing a fine game, rush after rush was made upon the Slough goal.

Fisher, Walker, Padwick and Ivall defended splendidly, whilst Werrell was always equal to any shots sent in, once being loudly cheered for fisting out a drive from Gibbons from almost under the bar.

Thirty minutes from the start Denton, obtaining possession near the half way line, raced right away from J. Harrington and scored a fine goal for Slough.

Maidenhead then returned to the attack with more energy than ever, and Goom at last succeeded in equalising matters.

When ends were changed, the score was still one all.

On restarting, Maidenhead had to face a stiff breeze, the visitors were quickly pressing again but were weak in front of goal.

After the first ten minutes, Slough were the superior side, and fourteen minutes from change of ends Denton put in another tricky run and passed to Poole. He sent across to the right wing, and they returned it to the centre, where Smith pounced on it and scored a second goal for Slough.

From the kick off Goom made a pretty run, and although forced over to near the corner flag, got in a fine centre, which Werrell fisted over the heads of a crowd of players, and five minutes from the previous score, Goom fouled Smith.

The free kick was finely placed by Walker, and after Lawrence had saved once the ball struck the post and rebounded into the net, Wright giving it the final touch.

From another centre by Denton, Cox found the net again directly after but was given offside and from a corner a most exciting scrimmage took place round Lawrence, but the ball could not be forced over the line.

Towards the close the visitors had hard luck in not reducing Slough's lead.
