Slough Town progressed to the Semi-Finals of the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup with victory at Bracknell Town on Tuesday evening.

The Robins play two levels below the Rebels in the Hellenic League Premier Division, but pushed Slough all the way on their new 3G playing surface at the new-look Larges Lane and on this evidence, should be challenging for promotion back to Step 4.

Bracknell had dedicated the match to the memory of Kevin McGoldrick and after an immaculately-observed minute’s silence, the home side, with a number of former Slough players in their ranks, took the game to their visitors from the off.

Denying Slough space and time on the ball, Bracknell threatened on eight minutes as TJ Bohane was played clean through, but a heavy touch allowed Jack Turner to claim the ball.

But Bohane made no mistake three minutes later, swivelling and looping a shot over Turner after a deep cross from Seb Bowerman had been nodded down to him.

The game settled down after a frenetic start and Slough’s first chance came as Manny Williams’ header was parried by Chris Grace, with the follow-up blocked behind.

Slough started to play the ball around with greater ease and this led to an equaliser on 26 minutes. Chris Flood got in a shot from 12 yards out which looked to be a comfortable save for Grace, but instead the ball squirmed through his grasp and rolled into the net.

Grace redeemed himself by saving Matt Lench’s attempted chip soon after, but five minutes before the interval he could do nothing to prevent the Rebels taking the lead with a superb team goal.

Slough’s one-touch football around the edge of the box resulted in Nathan Webb finding space to slide the ball across for Flood, who neatly finished again.

Bracknell could have gone in to the break level though if not for a smart save from Turner to deny Bohane’s half-volley just before the whistle.

Instead, Slough extended their lead early in the second half with Josh Jackman coming inside from his left full-back position to bend the ball in to the bottom corner from the edge of the box.

The Rebels looked for a fourth, but Flood fired over before presenting another chance for Jackman, but this time Grace saved well.

Brad Wadkins, who provided the muscle in attack alongside Williams and Flood, saw an effort cleared off the line as he looked to get in on the act.

But for all their chances, Slough could not put the game to bed and Bracknell reduced the deficit on 82 minutes with the impressive Seb Bowerman coming inside from the left wing to fire a shot past Turner and into the far corner.

Slough held firm and denied Bracknell any further chances, whilst also going close again with Lench unlucky to see an effort hit the top of the crossbar and Williams denied again by Grace, who rushed out to block after the striker was played in.
