Slough scored seven times in the second half at Arbour Park as they overwhelmed strugglers Dunstable and moved up to second place in the EVO-STIK South Premier table.
The victory is the Club’s largest league win since a 10-0 win against Tuesday evening’s visitors Hitchin Town in April 1980.
But joint manager Neil Baker admitted his side received a ‘rollicking’ at half time after the two sides went in level at 1-1, with Dunstable scoring an equaliser against the run of play through Aaron Hudson just before the interval.
Dunstable’s Arel Amu was denied by Jack Turner as early as the fifth minute after being played in by a ball from Lanre Ladipo which split the Slough defence.
But Slough took the lead on 14 minutes, Brad Wadkins nodding in his first for the club after Guy Hollis headed James Dobson’s free kick back across goal.
The Rebels missed a number of chances to extend their lead though. Warren Harris was denied by William Henry – a loan signing from Swindon Town this week – whilst Dobson and Wadkins both put headers off target.
Guy Hollis later saw a free header blocked in a crowded goalmouth, and the Rebels were denied what looked an obvious penalty when Dobson went to ground after a shove from Keiran Ogden as he was about to receive a pass from Wadkins.
Slough’s sloppiness was punished as Hudson pounced on 44 minutes. He capitalised on a poor defensive header and made no mistake from around 12 yards, sending a low strike beyond Turner.
Amazingly, Dunstable missed a glorious chance to take the lead in the opening minutes of the second half, as Amu stretched to meet Ladipo’s cross but failed to steer the ball on target.
But Slough regained the lead on 54 minutes with Wadkins again on target. Dobson’s pinpoint cross found the striker at the back post, and he guided the ball low into the corner of the goal with his right foot, giving Henry no chance.
Another goal arrived two minutes later as Mark Nisbet volleyed Dobson’s corner into the roof of the net via a deflection.
That was the cue for Slough to go on and make their dominance count, as the goals started to flow against Dunstable’s young side. The clinical Rebels created a glut of chances, with Wadkins completing his hat-trick with a flicked header from Nathan Webb’s cross on 65 minutes.
A triple substitution followed for Slough, with one eye on Tuesday evening’s match, and Manny Williams emerged from the bench to have an immediate impact as he controlled a headed clearance and fired into the top corner on 71 minutes.
Dunstable substitute Joseph Chidyausiku provided a candidate for miss of the season as he put the ball wide of an open goal from the edge of the box.
Chris Flood added a sixth from Simon Dunn’s pass after George Wells worked hard to keep the ball in play by the corner flag, and James Dobson deservedly got in on the act two minutes from time, having played an instrumental role of four of his side’s goals, when he tapped home Williams’ cross after a one-two with Flood.
Williams scored his second in stoppage time to complete the rout, firing home after controlling Matt Lench’s chipped ball over the top.
