Slough rounded off their pre-season preparations with a good 2-0 win over Conference South side Wealdstone, Eddie Smith scoring both goals in the first half.

Smith’s first came amidst appeals for handball after Nathan Webb’s strike was blocked by a Wealdstone defender, but Smith buried the loose ball past Tim Brown in the ‘Stones’ goal.

Slough keeper Mark Scott was called upon to keep Wealdstone at bay on numerous occasions, and did his job well, making a good stop with his legs shortly before Sean Fraser made a great clearance over the bar from a free kick.

Smith’s and Slough’s second goal came from a strike from the edge of the box, which was deflected under Brown and into the net.

Nathan Webb put a shot over and Scott kept out Bradley Hudson-Odoi as both sides went close to finding the back of the net again.

In the second period, Jefferson Louis looped a header which came back off the woodwork for Wealdstone, and Scott made a fine one-handed save, with Slough clearing off the line from the follow-up attempt.

Scott was the hero yet again as he pulled off a stunning point blank save to keep out the visitors, with Slough having much more work to do defensively in the second half.

But Slough held on to claim another clean sheet and the Rebels now look forward to hosting Frome Town on Saturday in the opening game of the Southern League season.
