Slough are off to a winning start in their preparations for the 2015/16 Southern League, Premier Division season, with Neil Baker and Jon Underwood victorious over Farnborough FC at their old stomping ground, Cherrywood Road.

The Rebels emerged as comfortable 4-0 winners on a hot day, with Slough able to give run-outs to new signings Mark Scott, Nathan Webb, Gary MacDonald and Lewis Putman, with trialist Callum Webb also starting at left-back.

Slough looked sharper than their hosts from the off, and were the better side throughout, with Farnborough fielding a number of trialists.

Dave Woozley was drafted in to cover for various absentees, including Guy Hollis, and partnered captain MacDonald at centre-back - and it was the skipper who headed Slough into a 13th-minute lead, rising unmarked to nod Jake Parsons' corner past the helpless Farnborough keeper.

Farnborough went close to an equaliser as a cross-shot went just wide of the far post with an attacker just unable to get his toe on it. Ben Edwards then doubled Slough's lead on 24 minutes, running on to a delightful clipped pass from Woozley inside his own half and beating the keeper to the ball, with his effort just sneaking in at the near post.

Mark Scott in the Slough goal was rarely tested, but was quick to rush out and block a Farnborough attacker during a promising attack, and caught every cross well to snuff out the threat from the hosts. Scott was replaced by Luke Williams in the second half, and he had an even quieter time.

In the second period, Slough also introduced Wes Harrison - again stepping in to cover with Slough missing six defenders – along with Gurkan Gokmen, Lewis Putman and Oscar Betts. Warren Harris played the opening 45 minutes as he continues his comeback from ACL surgery.

New striker Putman was brought down in the box by a clumsy tackle to give Slough a 53rd-minute penalty, which Ed Smith emphatically dispatched to make it 0-3.

Ed Smith rounded off the scoring with a minute left, casually walking the ball into the goal after Putman broke clear and saw his shot pushed away by the keeper, but only as far as the lurking Slough striker.

Slough will travel to Hayes & Yeading on Tuesday evening for their next pre-season test.
