Lewis Putman scored a hat-trick and Jake Parsons netted twice as Slough defeated Burnham in their most recent pre-season friendly at The Gore.

Craig Scott made his first start for the club, whilst Sean Fraser and Billy Jeffreys made their first appearances this pre-season. Adrian Sear made a welcome return to the squad as he continues his comeback from an ankle injury, and played the final ten minutes.

Slough fell behind early on after failing to clear a corner, but the Rebels did not take long to find an equaliser, with Putman slotting in after Jake Parsons surged past his man on the right side of the box and played him in one-on-one.

Parsons was in the thick of the action on numerous occasions and had a tremendous game. After Ed Smith and Chris Henry had seen shots blocked, Parsons put Slough into the lead with a strike at the near post which the Burnham keeper could only help in to the goal. Parsons and Henry, playing as wingers, tormented the Burnham full backs regularly in the opening half hour, getting in behind the hosts and playing in dangerous balls.

Slough introduced Scott Harris, Billy Jeffreys, Callum Webb and Gary MacDonald at half time and went in search of goals. Jake Parsons registered his second assist of the game, controlling well and crossing for Scott Harris to tap in.

Putman scored his second, and Slough’s fourth, stroking the ball in via a post after the Rebels won possession in midfield.

Both sides missed further chances, with Burnham putting a free header over the bar, and Scott Harris shooting wide of goal after he was played in.

Slough scored a fifth through Jake Parsons, the midfielder firing in from the edge of the box after Putman laid it off. Burnham replied with a goal from Carl Davies, who beat substitute keeper Matt Bonnett, turning in a cross from the right.

But Putman had the last word, rounding the Burnham keeper and slotting in from a narrow angle to cap a fine individual and team performance.
