A 15th minute own goal by Hayes & Yeading defender Ben Gerring was all that separated Slough Town and Hayes & Yeading in a closely-contested friendly match at the Middlesex club's Beaconsfield Road 3G pitch.

Neither side had created a chance of note before Gerring's unfortunate own goal, the defender putting the ball past his own keeper, Dan Lincoln, after good work from Lewis Putman to put in a low driven cross at the near post.

Putman was denied a second when he forced Lincoln into a good block, whilst at the other end Hayes & Yeading almost found an equaliser, with Michael Thalassitis rounding Mark Scott, but finding his path to goal blocked, with Rhys Murrell-Williamson's follow-up being blocked.

Max Worsfold fired wide just before half time as the hosts struggled to break Slough down.

In the second half, United saw more of the ball and carried the greater attacking threat. However, Putman was next to threaten a goal, with his shot being deflected wide after good work from Scott Harris to win the ball ahead of Lincoln.

Thalassitis fired over from the edge of the box for Hayes & Yeading as Slough freshened things up in attack by introducing Dan Read and Eddie Smith in place of Harris and Putman.

The closest the hosts came to penetrating the Slough defence was through a Luke Williams free kick, which Scott fumbled, but did well to recover as Dylan Kearney followed up.

Dan Read was then presented with a great chance to make it 0-2 when Chris Henry, introduced in place of the injured Gurkan Gokmen, slipped a pass through to him, but his shot clipped the outside of the post after beating Lincoln.

Slough, marshalled by the experienced former Hayes & Yeading defender Gary MacDonald, looked assured at the back and closed out the game to record a second win and clean sheet of the pre-season campaign.
