A late strike from Dan Read saw the Rebels come from a goal behind at half-time to secure a pre-season victory against Biggleswade Town at the Carlsberg Stadium.

Eager to put their horror show at Wealdstone on Wednesday night behind them, Slough started brightly. The away side saw George Short shoot over, while Ed Smith was also denied by the Waders goalkeeper early on.

Ryan Lake then had a good effort from 30-yards saved before Smith again had a chance to score following a fine ball by trialist Aaron Couch. However, last season’s top scorer saw his effort well saved by the keeper again.

Soon after that chance, Biggleswade took the lead when an attacker slid the ball into the net past Somerville.

Unlucky to be behind, Slough still continued to create chances, with Smith again unlucky to see his shot on the turn crash off the bar and rebound to safety.

Despite playing well, the Rebels were lucky to not go further behind just before half-time when a Biggleswade attacker rounded Jake Somerville only to see a shot by one of his teammates go wide following his good play.

Slough made several changes in the second-half, but still continued to impress. They were soon back on level terms when Aaron Lansiquot found space in the area. He saw his shot saved only for Scott Harris to poke the rebound into the net for the equaliser.

The Rebels could have then gone ahead as two chances fell to midfielder Ollie Burgess in quick succession. The first saw the former QPR man fire just wide, with the second a low effort saved by the keeper.

As Biggleswade started use their substitutes, they began to look more dangerous and had two great chances to take the lead. The first saw them shoot wide when well placed. Then minutes later they had a superb curling effort that hit the post and rebounded to safety.

It was Slough who claimed victory late on though when fine hold-up play from Scott Harris saw him pass the ball to Dan Read. The former Godalming striker hit a superb effort from the edge of the area low into the net to secure victory for the away side.
