SLOUGH Town's new captain, Micky O'Sullivan, lifted the club's first trophy of the season after they trounced their Athenian League opposition on Tuesday night.

O'Sullivan, who was with Slough in the glory days of 1973 when they reached the FA Amateur Cup Final at Wembley, received the Marlow Invitation Cup from the club's chairman Mr. Keith Budd.

It was not Slough's best performance so far but the result was never in doubt after they had blitzed Marlow with four goals during a 16-minute spell in the first half. If they had not let the heavy rain dampen their enthusiasm, the Rebels might have run into double figures against one of the poorest sides they are likely to encounter this year.

Mick Kiely scored the first on the quarter hour when he collected a Barrie Friend pass near the six yard area, quickly turned one defender and shot home from a narrow angle.

Dave Russell then made it 2-0 after one of Slough's fancy free kick moves which they have been rehearsing in training.

Both he and Keith White ran over the ball before Friend fired past a wall of players. Goalkeeper Graham Springett failed to hold the shot and an outstretched foot from Kiely proved enough to prod a short pass to the waiting Russell.

Friend added the third when he rammed in the ball from 20 yards and then set up White to make it 4-0 in the 31st minute.

It was the former Burnham star's first goal for Slough since joining last month and he headed their fifth goal from a superbly flighted cross from Friend near the end.

But in between it was an indifferent display by the Rebels who allowed Marlow to regain their confidence following that first half blitz.

Defender Ray Palmer gave the scoreline a semblance of respect when he volleyed past Richard Teale from 25 yards just before half-time.

Steve Roberts was then unlucky in the 58th minute when he smashed the ball against the bar from the same distance. But not even that jolted Slough out of their complacency and it was not until the later stages that they began to dominate their visitors.
