Slough Town produced some of their best football of a poor season as they beat Winsford United in a friendly at Wexham Park on Friday.

And the star of the show was newcomer Mick Kiely, a 20 year-old striker from Borough Road College. He gave Slough's attack the balance it has lacked all year.

Kiely had a hand in two goals and might have scored himself as Slough almost relentlessly pushed forward against the Cheshire club who had knocked them out of the F.A. Trophy in February.

Winsford looked to be heading for another win when they rocked Slough with two Bobby Fraser goals in the first half hour. This powerful centre-forward headed in a cross from former Everton winner Cliff Marshall after 12 minutes and then slipped in between John Beyer and Roger Mackay to grab a second.

But within two minutes Alan Gane had reduced the arrears from the penalty spot after Dave Russell had been brought down.

The equaliser came seven minutes later when Peter Feely was given a second chance by the slack Winsford defence and he rifled the ball into the net from eight yards.

Kiely then missed a sitter but this promising youngster made amends in the 64th minute with a defence splitting pass for Paul Lee to fire Town 3-2 ahead.

Friend, who earlier had hit the post, almost set up a fourth Slough goal when Winsford's Graham Marshall could only head one of his corners against the bar.

Slough looked to be coasting home until five minutes from the end when keeper Trevor Porter made a glaring mistake. There seemed no danger as the tricky Cliff Marshall crossed for the far post but, inexplicably, Porter allowed the ball to sail over his head - and into the net.

However, justice was done a minute later. Friend cut inside the defence and Kiely once more slipped the ball to goal poacher Lee who scored a deserved winner.
