A first-half header from Dominic Rhone saw Slough claim victory over their higher division opponents Harrow Borough at Earlsmead.

In an even first half it was Slough who started brightly with Sean Sonner going close early on. He saw an acrobatic overhead kick hit the bar with former Rebel Jamie Jackson beaten, following a Dave Deeney corner.

Sonner was in the action again soon after. After being played through by Sean Fraser the Rebels striker lifted the ball over the bar when well placed.

Slough made their third chance count and took the lead on thirty minutes when a long throw by Ashley Deeney was powerfully headed into the net by Rhone.

Just before half-time the home side, managed by former Slough assistant manager Dave Anderson, could have equalised when a home player found himself with only goalkeeper James Warrington to beat. Last season’s supporters’ Player of the Season pushed the Harrow player’s shot away to safety.

Steve Bateman's men started the second half well, and hit the woodwork again when a cross from Fraser was powerfully headed against the bar again by Sonner, with the rebound cleared.

Slough continued to create chances and could have added to their lead when good play from Danny Murphy saw the ball pulled back to Leigh Mason who sliced his effort wide.

Midway through the second half Slough hit the woodwork for a third time. This time substitute Omar Vassell chipped the ball in from the right that clipped the bar, with Stuart Swift firing the rebound over.

In the last moments of the game Warrington again had to be at his best to produce an excellent save when a free-kick just outside the penalty area forced the Rebels keeper dive to his left and push the ball away to safety.

The result makes it six clean sheets in six games for Slough in pre-season, with a final test to come at Chesham United next Saturday, before the season starts on 18 August.
