A threadbare Slough squad took to the field against Boreham Wood and were dismantled against a ruthless Wood side that easily overcame what Slough could offer against them.

Anyone that was fit was included in the squad and some favours had to be called upon to ensure the Rebels had enough players to make sure the fixture went ahead, but the gulf in quality was apparent from the off.

Slough's gameplan was all about containment, which was apparent from them trying to slow the game down from the very first minutes.

However, for all the Rebels effort, there was only ever going to be one winner in this game and the Wood ran out comfortable winners and it hadn't helped matters than Ian Lovegrove had been sent off in the first half after picking up two bookings.

Slough went behind after Lovegrove had collected his first booking protesting the award of a penalty after the young defender brought down Greg Morgan on the right wing. Leon Archer stepped up and converted the penalty expertly to put the Wood one up.

Lovegrove picked up his second booking four minutes later as Morgan again had got the better of the stand in left back and his rash challenge saw him dismissed with just eighteen minutes played.

Wood extended their lead on the twenty third minute. Archer released the dangerous Morgan again down the right and the wingers cross was met by Chris Bangura at the back post who headed over Drake at the near post.

Steve Daly, a former Boreham Wood player, went close in a rare Slough venture into the Wood half as his towering header struck Matt Miller and went just wide.

The second half mirrored the first. The home side with a near complete domination of proceedings and they added four further goals to their tally.

Lee Allinson was allowed space on the edge of the area and he shifted the ball onto his right foot and bent one round Drake and into the bottom corner.

Slough were clinging on but heads had dropped and tired legs were kicking in. Chris Watters added a fourth as some slack defending allowed uncontested shots from Luke Gregson and Bangura were saved by Drake before Watters slotted under the helpless keeper.

Slough's only chance of an attacking threat was coming through set pieces and again Daly went close with a header as Morgan cleared off the line from the Rebels captain.

Allinson was again on hand to convert for the home sides fifth, racing onto a long ball through from Morgan as the home side had defended a long throw into the area from Steve Dell. Taking the ball in his stride as he moved forward, he was clear of the defence and finished cooly past Drake.

The final goal came wiht just under ten minutes remaining as Michael Cox finished off a move he'd started with a cross from the right. Darrell Cox mistimed his finish and the ball fell back to his namesake and he managed to finish past Drake.
