Had not Young, Ivall, Bubb, and Crocker refused at the last moment to become seniors, and had not the indisposition of Abrams compelled Slough to play only ten men, it is very certain that Marlow would not have been the winners in this match by six goals to love.

The encounter took place at Marlow, and for twenty minutes the game was very even. After this, the Slough men, however, fell away, and allowed the locals to win by the number of goals stated, half of which were recorded before the interval, and half after.

When one considers the calibre of the team which were sent to do battle, and the fact that the match took place away from home, no one can be surprised at the result of the contest, but by this it should not be understood that the players did not acquit themselves creditably.

On the contrary, Johns played a fine game in goal, Steele and New were very
conspicuous and the other men did much better than might have been expected, considering that they were such a mixed lot.

Marlow Lineup

White, Handsombody, Morton, E. Shaw, Splindlo, Meakes, Davis, Janes, Corby, Nicholls, C. A. Shaw.
