A penalty seven minutes before full-time by top scorer Tony Boot saw the Rebels claim a fortunate point against Ashford Town.

The away side dominated the game for the first twenty minutes with the Rebels sloppily giving the ball away and not looking at the races. Therefore it was no real surprise when the home side took the lead. Richard Butler pounced on some hesitancy in the defence by Nick Gyoury to clip the ball over Alan Foster into the net.

Soon after Ashford had two great chances to put the match beyond Slough's reach when first former Basingstoke striker Sean Gorman shot wide and then Andy O'Driscoll shooting just past Foster's goal with only a touch needed for a certain goal. Something needed to be done, the defence was sloppy and midfield looking for too long on the ball which gave both Matt Miller and Tony Boot little service up-front.

With Eddie Denton away at a Wedding acting manager Michael Gilkes made a brave decision to put on both Andrew Deaner and Ian Hodges just thirty minutes into the game for Adrian Brown and Glen Harris. The substitution almost made an impact just before half-time when Deaner headed down for Hodges who saw his low drive saved by Ashford goalkeeper Paul Burgess.

In the second half the Rebels had the majority of the ball, but Ashford still looked dangerous on the counter attack. The Rebels had a great chance to equalise when Tony Boot found himself only eight yards out from goal, but the striker shot just wide when he should have hit the target. Soon after Andrew Deaner had another shot on goal that dipped just over the crossbar.

The Rebels finally got their equaliser when a handball was spotted in the penalty area. Tony Boot scored from the spot. A long range drive by Freddie Hyatt and two late Ian Hodges chances gave the Rebels the chance to snatch all three points, but that would have been harsh on Ashford who fully deserved to get something out of the match.
