Clement James, former sidekick of ex-Rebel striker Lloyd Owusu at Brentford, gave Slough's promotion hopes a boost with a match-winning brace on Saturday.

While Slough product Owusu was keeping the fifth-placed Nationwide Division Two side on track with an 84th minute winner against Bournemouth, sub James struck in the 45th and 74th minutes to bolster the Rebels' push.

In a match at Wexham Park which saw three red cards - two for the visitors - Slough suffered early on against a physical side determined to limit their opponents skill on the ball.

Tooting, managed by ex-Rebel Ian Hazel, went ahead on 28 minutes when Elliot Onochie put away a cross from Mark McGibbon. Tooting were made to pay when James appeared at the far post just before the interval to tuck away. Neville Roach shot across the goal to put the Rebels back on level terms.

Both side were reduced to ten men after a two-footed tackle from Slough midfielder Darron Wilkinson who had earlier picked up a yellow card, but Tooting's Simon Bassey was sent off for an off-the-ball clash with Kieran Gallagher.

Simon Ullathorne gave Slough the edge when he nodded home a free kick from Michael Gilkes and Tooting's ten became nine when Steve Lawson went after his second bookable offence.

James made the points safe when he was perfectly placed to net another cross from Roach.
