TWO late goals cost the Rebels a point at high-flying Canvey on Saturday.

The hosts dominated the first 15 minutes as Slough found their feet. During this period Canvey created a few good chances with Steve Parmenter and Neil Gregory looking dangerous up front.

On nine minutes, Chris Duffy was through on goal, but his shot was well saved by Danny Honey. Five minutes later, a poor clearance from Honey fell to Steve Tilson 30 yards out and his audacious lob hit the bar.

The Rebels weathered the storm and began to get more involved in the game, with Paul Barrowcliff back in midfield after his long spell out through injury.

Slough failed to pose a serious threat to the home goal. Junior Haynes was the man most likely to carve out an opening for Slough down the left wing and had the two best chances of the half.

On 34 minutes, he volleyed over and four minutes later, took the ball past two defenders before seeing his cross-shot go wide.

The second period was even tighter than the first. Both defences were strong, which meant Marcus Richardson and Dwight Marshall found it difficult to get through.

The Rebels' first shot on target came on the hour when Marshall's shot from a Richardson cross was blocked by a defender and the ball fell to Barrowcliff, but his 25-yard shot was saved.

Slough's defence, after a shaky start to the game, was solid, with Steve Daly and Honey particularly excelling to continually foil the Canvey attack.

Honey produced a superb save on 76 minutes when Parmeter volleyed a Tilson cross towards the top corner only to see it tipped over.

With a goalless draw looking likely, Canvey struck twice in a three minute spell.

On 83 minutes, Stimson's shot hit a post and Tilson converted, then sub Andy Jones grabbed a second with his first two touches after good work by Gregory.
