A CUP tie can be a great leveller and Hungerford, thrashed 6-0 in their last league game, matched Slough for commitment and passion.

But the visitors were forced to defend deep and hit Slough on the break, something their players weren't good enough to do against their Ryman Premier Division hosts.

After 28 minutes a good move involving Kenny Dyer, Marshall and Marcus Richardson forced a corner, taken by Mickey Engwell on the right.

The ball broke amid a mass of bodies and Leon Townley's powerful header made it 1-0.

David Gee was a constant threat on the left for Hungerford, and the visitors appeared more confident after the break, spreading the ball about well.

However, the best chances continued to come Slough's way. A free-kick was quickly taken by Engwell from the right, who found the classy Dave Rainford, and he headed in to make it 2-0.

Six minutes later it was 3-0. Lee Gledhill crossed from the right, and Bryan Hammatt placed his header into the top left corner.

Two minutes later Hungerford had a golden opportunity for glory after a stumble by White allowed Gee to run clean through on goal, but he pulled his shot horribly wide.

The only other action of note was an outrageous attempt by Engwell, who tried to lob the keeper from the centre circle with the keeper on his line.

The ball dipped wickedly and Walton was forced to palm it away.
